Correct Placement of Towels in the Bathroom

Correct Placement of Towels in the Bathroom

With all the different types of bath towels - hand towels, decorative towels and bath towels - it can be confusing when it comes to their proper placement. Before hanging your towel racks, think about the types of towels you need and where they should be in your bathroom.

Hand towel

After washing your hands at the sink, you need a small, well-placed towel to dry your hands. The towel rack, ideally, should be placed on the wall directly next to the sink, positioned at a comfortable height for the average person. If it is a children's bathroom, place the support lower to be within reach. In some situations, the sink is located in the middle of a long counter and there are no adjacent walls, only a mirrored wall behind the sink. A towel rack is the appropriate solution, which can sit on the counter near the sink.

Bath towels

You grab a towel when you get out of the tub or shower. Install a 36-inch towel bar on a wall adjacent to the shower, close enough to reach it without getting out of the tub or shower. It should be installed at approximately the same height as the towel bar. The standard is approximately 48 inches. You can install a rack on top of each other if two people are using the bathroom. Leave enough space in between for the towels to hang and dry properly. If there is no white wall adjacent to the shower or bathtub, consider installing a towel hook or purchasing a standing towel rack. Hooks above the door are available for small bathrooms and can accommodate multiple towels. Sometimes it is possible to install a towel rack in the bathtub or shower, if there is a wall in front of the water source so that the towels do not get wet.

Decorative towel display

Rather than relying on towel racks, you can choose to display your towels creatively. Place a cupboard or decorated shelves in the bathroom. Carefully fold the extra towels and stack them on the shelves. For a spa effect, roll up the towels and stack them in rows. Additional washcloths can be rolled up in the same way and displayed in a basket on the counter. For guest bathrooms, consider using decorative towels. However, if you don't intend to, be sure to hang them away from the sink and provide spare towels for drying your hands.
