Exactly what I expected ... mat is cooling and all it needs is water to start the cooling effect. My dog won't stay on it even though she is hot but that might just take getting used to it. I can't rate durability because she isn't using it and it is only weeks old. I gave it five stars because I have not seen anything to reduce it or improve the product.
